AN AGENT-BASED FRAMEWORK FOR LINKING DISTRIBUTED SIMULATIONS Linda F. Wilson Daniel Burroughs Jeanne Sucharitaves Anush Kumar Thayer School of Engineering 8000 Cummings Hall Dartmouth College Hanover, NH 03755-8000, U.S.A. Simulations often operate on static datasets and data sources, but many simulations would benefit from access to dynamic data. This paper describes our work developing a software agent-based framework for dynamically linking distributed simulations and other remote data resources. The framework allows independently-designed simulations to communicate seemlessly with no apriori knowledge of the details of other simulations and data sources. In this paper, we discuss our architecture and current implementation developed using the D’Agents mobile agent system. To demonstrate the feasibility of our system, we present a prototype for a hypothetical search and rescue mission.

The Abels System: Designing an Adaptable Interface for Linking Simulations
We have developed a framework for using software agent technology for linking distributed simulations and other data resources. The Agent-Based Environment for Linking Simulations (ABELS) framework uses software agents to coordinate distributed simulations, communicate data efficiently between simulations, and retrieve data from other sources such as sensors and datasets. ABELS allows simulatio...
متن کاملA Security Framework for the Agent-Based Environment for Linking Simulations (ABELS)
The Agent-Based Environment for Linking Simulations (ABELS) framework is designed to allow independent and physically distributed simulations and other data resources to form a " data cloud " for the exchange of information. In particular, it uses a distributed brokering system to facilitate dynamic linkings between independently designed, autonomous participants, without requiring the use of s...
متن کاملThe Abels Framework for Linking Distributed Simulations Using Software Agents
Many simulations need access to dynamicallychanging data from other sources such as sensors or even other simulations. For example, a forest fire simulation may need data from sensors in the forest and a weather simulation at a remote site. We have developed an agentbased software framework to facilitate the dynamic exchange of data between distributed simulations and other remote data resource...
متن کاملThe ABELS Brokering System
Simulations often need access to physically distributed data resources such as datasets, sensors, or even other simulations. The Agent-Based Environment for Linking Simulations (ABELS) is a framework that allows distributed simulations and data resources to dynamically communicate with each other in real time to produce useful and accurate results. Specifically, it allows independently designed...
